Thursday, February 5th @ The Spot
This week *The Spot*, the weekly poetry reading at the Hotel Vernon (1 Kelly
Square, Worcester), will hold an open mic and a feature, with a twist. In
honor of the feature's 37th birthday there will be a *Roast* of and *poetry
reading* by *Victor Infante*. Come celebrate or skewer the feature, listen
to some good words and have a grand old time.
The reading starts at 8:00 p.m. with a brief open mic. 21+ and proper id is
required.
------------------------------
Youth Slam Saturday Night (Feb. 7th)
The *Speakout! Youth Poetry Slam* meets every Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00
p.m. The format is an open mic, youth slam (ages 13-19 welcome) and a
feature. This week their features will be *Meg Fogerty* and *Richard
Edouard-Denor* from 2008 Brave New Voices Semi-Finalist Providence Youth
Poetry Slam Team. Join them in The Bisto in Higgins Student Center (950 Main
Street, Worcester). Come share a poem at the open mic, catch the feature or
cheer on the slammers.
------------------------------
Coming up on Sunday, February 8th
Join us this Sunday night for a feature by *Sam Teitel* and *Steve
Subrizi*for a rescheduled feature. Their originally scheduled feature
was snowed out
back in December.
Sam Teitel and Steve Subrizi are both poets from the Boston area. Steve is a
member of Emerson College's legendary and award winning CUPSI team, The
Gringo Choir. Sam is a student at Hampshire College and a member of
Manchester New Hampshire's slightly less legendary or award winning but
still perfectly respectable National Poetry Slam team, Slam Free Or Die.
They are delighted to be embarking on their first big national poetry tour,
and are willing to accept the idea that they will be touring with each
other. They will be driving across the country in Sam's 2005 Scion XB
because any good buddy story involves a comical automobile. Their
collaborative chapbook, "Beet-itude: The Super Deluxe Collector's Edition"
will be available soon. No, that's not a typo; it's a book about beets.
Like, the vegetable. Beets with attitude.
Head on down to Jumpin' Juice and Java (335 Chandler Street, Worcester). The
reading starts at *6:00 p.m.* No cover; please throw some money in the
bucket to support the features.
------------------------------
Mike McGee @ The Dirty Gerund
on Monday, February 9th
The *Dirty Gerund Poetry Show* meets every Monday night starting at 8:30
p.m. The reading is being held at Ralph's Chadwick Square Diner (148 Grove
Street, Worcester) and is hosted by Rushelle Frazier. This week they'll have
an open mic followed by their first feature, the * Mighty Mike McGee*. It's
always a fun night of words when Mike is involved so come down and support
Worcester's newest reading.
No cover; donations accepted. 21+

February 1st Revisited
Thanks to everyone who came out for the feature by *Kryia Abrahams*. It was
a fun filled night of laughter and good words. Kryia started things out with
a primer to Jehovah's Witnesses and then moved on to read excerpts from her
upcoming book I'm Perfect, You're Doomed: Tales of a Jehovah's Witness
Upbringing <http://www.kyriaabrahams.com/aboutthebook.html> (Touchstone,
2009). With highly personal anecdotes she shared her introduction to slam
poetry, attempts to get out of her marriage and the departure from JW-land.
We look forward to getting our hands on the book when it is released in
March. Thanks for the words and funny bits.
