Coming up on Sunday, December 20th

[image: Dane Kuttler] This week the Poets' Asylum welcomes *Dane Kuttler* as
our feature. Kuttler grew up in northern New Jersey, where she learned about
the wonders of independent coffee shops, and the importance of knowing one's
origins. In college, Dane became a regular at the Hampshire Slam Collective,
and participated in the first-ever Women of the World Poetry Slam in
Detroit, MI. Her poetry is often lyrical and narrative, exploring themes of
Jewish and queer identities, with a lot of love poems to her grandparents.

Join us at Jumpin' Juice and Java (335 Chandler Street, Worcester). The
sign-up list goes out by 6:00 p.m. and the reading starts by 6:30 p.m. No
cover however please put some money in the bucket; it's how we pay the
feature.

December 13th Revisited

This week we held our first *8-Minute Speech Slam*. It was a very
interesting event with the participants offering talks on a variety of
topics ranging from abuse to memory, organizing to bad teeth. Three judges
from the audience gave closed scores to each of the speakers and at the end
of the night host Danny Balel tallied up the scores and delivered the
verdict. Before we get to that here are some memorable lines (hopefully I
got them down correctly).

   - *"My memory is an eggplant."* - Megan Thoma
   - *"Stories that are good always start with a half truth."* - Bobby Gibbs
   - *"Starting with the slime becoming earth!"* - Dave Keali'i
   - *"We are responsible for creating ourselves."* - Heather Macpherson
   - *"We are constantly in the process of choosing our identities."* - Alex
   Charalambides
   - *"Your thoughts race, they all fall on each other like a waterfall."* -
   Tony Brown
   - *"My eyes a bathtub slowly filling with water."* - Melinda Lee

At the end of the night *Tony Brown* received the highest score and took
home bragging rights plus a lovely orange plastic spider.
