Coming up on Sunday, December 13th
This week we're trying something new at the Poets'
Asylum<http://poetsasylum.org/>with the
TED <http://www.ted.com/> conference inspired *8-Minute Speech Slam*. This
will be a one round slam with a invitational slate of 7 competitors plus one
wild card slot for someone present that night who is prepared to take part.
Each person will perform the "speech of their life" about some topic they
find deeply important, personal or just plain enriching. Performances will
be judges by audience members and the winner of the night will head home
with some bragging rights (and a prize of some sort if we can figure out
something appropriate).
Come on down to Jumpin' Juice and Java (335 Chandler Street, Worcester). The
sign-up list goes out by 6:00 p.m. and the reading starts by 6:30 p.m. No
cover; please put some money in the bucket to support reading.

December 6th Revisited
We had a good reading this week with the regular open mic and the *Head-to-Head
Haiku Deathmatch*. Only two people decided to take part in the slam, Nick
Davis and Gary Hoare. We went with a best of 11 rounds approach so the first
poet to receive 6 wins would take home the prize. The slam ended up running
all eleven rounds and darn near had a tie. Host Danny Balel called it with
Nick receiving the final win and the $10 prize. It was a fun, if shorter
than normal, night.
