2004 Indy World Poetry Slam

For iWPS '04 Worcester chose it's representative in an open slam off. It was a four round slam with a couple of twists. Here are the rules we used.

• All slammers will compete in two rounds - one with a 2 minute time limit and another with a 3 minute time limit.
   
• The poets with the 6 highest scores at the end of the first two rounds move on to the second half of the slam off. All poets moving on have their scores wiped and start fresh at zero before round 3.
   
• The remaining 6 poets will compete in two additional rounds - a 4 minute round and a 1 minute round.
   
• The poet with the highest cumulative score from rounds 3 and 4 becomes the Indy rep for Worcester.
   
• All poets get a 10 second grace period on each poem before points are deducted.

Poetry Slam, Inc. has announced that on February 4-7, 2004 the first annual individual WORLD POETRY SLAM CHAMPIONSHIP 2004 (iWPS) will be hosted by Wits End Poetry in Greenville, South Carolina.

The iWPS is a three day competition featuring two nights of prelim slams, daytime events and a twelve poet final. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 4 finishers. The competition is open to poets 18 and older. Up to 60 poets from around the world will compete in this inaugural year. And a slammer representing the Poets' Asylum will be heading to Greenville.
