The Poets' Asylum has always counted on contributions from the audience and wider poetry community to help the Slam team take part in the National Poetry Slam. The team participates in regional slams and demos that help raise a few bucks. The Asylum produces an anthology as well and that brings in a few more dollars. Our big event is the annual Asylum auction which helps pay the bills but doesn't go as far as it once did.
This year we ran a couple of new events... an Art Sale & Auction and the iPod Nano Fundraising Challenge. Info on these events, as well as the Annual Asylum Auction, can be found below.
This year we are very pleased to have Cyndi Keeley working as the fund raising coordinator. Please contact her at fundraising @ poetsasylum.org if you have any questions, need fund raising sheets, want to donate to the art sale or auction, or have a great fund raising idea.

On June 24th we held our first Art Supporting Art event with an art sale
and silent auction. The work of a dozen artists were available for both
immediate purchase and auction bidding. At the end of the night we had
raised over $750 toward the team expenses. We greatly appreciate all those
who helped make this quickly put together event a success.
Many thanks to the artists who donated their work: Liz Heath, Gary Hoare, Cynthia Keeley, Mareh Labenski, Dave Macpherson, Heather Macpherson, Bill MacMillan, Sou MacMillan, Kaley Parenteau, Brian Sampson, Andrew Watt and Jon Wolf.
Thanks to Cowboy Matt for providing music during the afternoon.
We would also like to acknowledge the contributions and support of Ballard Street Poetry Journal, Trevor Byrne-Smith, Erin Jackson, the Java Hut, Victor Infante, Leighann Killea, Pharmaceutically Gifted, Eric Urban and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette (and reporter Pam Sacks).
Due to a lack of interest the iPod Nano Fundraising Challenge was canceled. It was worth a try.
The annual Poets' Asylum Auction was held on
Sunday, July 15th this year. Once again this was our big event to raise
the money needed to get the Slam team to the 2007 National Poetry Slam. A
mix of open mic poetry & amateur auction, this year the auction raised a bit
over $1800. Many thanks to all those who came out to the auction, bid on an
item, won an auction or simply listened to the poetry. We couldn't do it
without you.
The auction is made possible by donations from the poetry community of everyday items that are in good shape plus the occasional interesting item. Our appreciate for you is limitless.
If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the Poets' Asylum in support of the slam team please make your check out to the Worcester County Poetry Association and write "for the Poets' Asylum" in the memo field. You can hand your check over to Cythia Keeley or Bob Gill or you can mail it to the WCPA, 1 Ekman Street, Worcester, MA 01607.
